Recent global events have shown that youth bring energy and creative ideas through their determination for positive change in communities and their qualitative interaction with sustainable development visions. In the Kingdom, for instance, the architects of Vision 2030 are the youth who fill the offices for achieving the vision in ministries and government agencies, and the need for institutions that are more responsive to their needs and aspirations remains very significant.

However, youth also face difficulties, so social exclusion, weak rights, gender-based violence, poverty, and other issues must be addressed to empower youth to reach their full potential.

Volunteering is a powerful way to gain a deep sense of civic engagement and positive change in their communities. The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program has been enhancing the role of youth in development since 1976 and has extensive experience in integrating young volunteers. The program also aims to provide clear leadership for youth volunteering and to enhance global partnerships with young volunteer partners. The program sees that motivating youth for volunteer work goes through three steps:

First: Advocacy and Global Partnership:

The UNV program works with volunteer-sending organizations, civil society, governments, and other UN agencies to promote active participation of youth as volunteers in peace and development programs worldwide in various countries, enhancing the exchange of experiences and learning about global experiences under various circumstances, which provides youth with a strong incentive for innovation and continued volunteer work.

Second: The UN Youth Volunteer Program:

This program is concerned with volunteering among a large number of youths under the youth program's conditions, providing youth with training courses, developmental trips, and discussion panels to discuss legal issues related to volunteer work as well as the life needs of youth that some volunteer solutions can provide.

Third: Capacity Building:

By ensuring the establishment of volunteer programs for youth so that they can achieve the greatest possible benefit for the community, volunteers, as well as governments and organizations.

The program enhances national and regional capacities by integrating the political and legislative frameworks of governments, civil society, and other partners, to develop and support arrangements for young volunteers through technical assistance and programming.
